Company: Interface Flooring Systems
Packaging Application: Repack operation and storage of yarn, carpet remnants,
wood, shrink-wrap and cardboard at Interface Flooring Systems
Packaging Challenge: Corrugated boxes with plastic bases and lids were used to
collect and handle waste material. The snaps that held the plastic pieces on the top and bottom of
the boxes tore out, creating safety issues. The boxes were about 50" high and made it difficult for
employees to load, unload and move around the plant without being easily damaged.
Packaging Solution: ORBIS worked with Interface Flooring Systems to recommend a
40" x 48" collapsible bulk container. The company initially purchased about 1,000 containers. These
containers have two solid sidewalls and two drop doors for easy access to the contents inside. The
containers also have a built-in pallet with four-way entry, so they can be moved easily by a lift
truck without the risk of damaging the product or the container.
Product: 40" x 48" x 39" bulk containers
Results: The payback period was less than six months on the original purchase. The
containers not only improved the material handling operation and the plant appearance, but also
reduced product damage and safety issues.
