July 21, 2008, OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – ORBIS Corporation, North America’s leading plastic reusable
packaging manufacturer, has announced further price increases on its plastic containers, pallets
and dunnage to offset unprecedented rising raw material costs. ORBIS primarily uses high-density
polyethylene and polypropylene plastic resins to mold its products. Crude oil and natural gas
are feedstocks for both materials.
In announcing the marketplace price increases, Jim Kotek, ORBIS’ President stated, “In recent
months, our resin suppliers have announced and implemented multiple price increases, due to rising
oil prices and escalating transportation costs, and we expect continued cost pressure for the
foreseeable future. Despite our ongoing efforts to manage operational costs, we have been
unable to offset the magnitude of these increases. As a result, ORBIS will implement further
price increases on our plastic products.”
“We know that reusable packaging reduces customers’ per-trip costs and drives system
wide supply chain cost savings. Reusable packaging provides leading companies with sustainable
alternatives to single-trip wood or corrugated packaging,” continued Kotek.
In this volatile market environment, ORBIS diligently maintains a strong focus on operational
efficiencies to drive value for its customers and to deliver the economic and environmental
advantages of reusable packaging to the marketplace.
